I can say with a certain level of confidence that DALL-E doesn’t really know where Central Europe is. To be fair, as a language model, it isn’t supposed to know where anywhere is.
One day I thought I’d pimp my Teams background a bit, so quite naturally, I turned to DALL-E:
Me: Generate a photo to serve as a video call background, which includes the interior of a modern office with large windows. Through the windows, the skyline of a Central European city is visible, with a mix of 19th century buildings and modern office blocks.
What I got looked more like London or Frankfurt, none exactly in Central Europe:

And if I want my background look like I am sitting in a nifty office, it must not like I am hovering at the ceiling, so I asked for some corrections:
Me: Bring the camera closer to the table, please.

Geography literally went out the window again — the first image even includes the Gherkin from London. To my surprise, the second image does contain something remotely resembling the Parliament building in Budapest; the first landmark that you would actually believe to be in Central Europe.
With all that said, my favorite of all these is the third image of the series; that is the one I occasionally use as my Teams background.
Strange work-centered post for a Saturday night this is, though.
